Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Second Annual National Pee Alone Moms Night Out

So much to talk about these days. Ebola! OMG! The Fall TV Season! OMG! Elections! OMG!

My daughter is a senior in High School! BIGGEST OMG EVER! Just look at this gorgeous picture. Yes, I'm biased, shut up.

Holy crap she's gorgeous.
She's been looking at colleges and will be starting her final season as a varsity basketball player in just a few short weeks. Her sister, my baby, is in the middle of her freshman year and is just finishing up her jv season on the volleyball team. The hubby has just taken a job out of town and is spending more time with his aging parents, which is a blessing for them. So with all the running around and craziness we have going on, you can bet your sweet patootie that I need a Moms Night Out.

That's why I'm so excited to announce the Second Annual Pee Alone Moms Night Out! The contributors to the hilarious book (that I'm a part of) I Just Want to Pee Alone (now on sale at Amazon.com for $8.91!!) all teamed up last year on October 16 and held a National Pee Alone Moms Night Out, and it was such a rousing success that we're going to do it again this year. Only we're opening it up to ALL bloggers, hell ANYONE who wants to host this event may do so.

Moms deserve a night out and I'm no different, so my event will once again be held at Domestic in Shepherdstown. Meet me there at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12 and we'll have dinner, drinks, some laughs and some great fun! There will also be a raffle to benefit the Jefferson High School Cougar Marching Band. Gotta get those kids to Florida somehow!

Don't you love my attempts to edit last year's flyer in Paint? Not quitting my day job.
What d'ya say? Do you need a night out? More details will follow this post with locations all around the country, so stay tuned!

I Just Want to Be Alone...

I was supposed to write this review when the book first came out, but then life happened. Overwhelmed with band, volleyball, track, more band, work, house, dogs, band again....you get the idea. So now I'm making good on my word to review the book "I Just Want to Be Alone." The book is the follow-up anthology to the equally hilarious "I Just Want to Pee Alone." (I was in that!)

When I got this book from Amazon, I immediately searched for the essays of some of my favorite bloggers: Michelle from You're My Favorite Today, Rebecca from Frugalista Blog, Meredith from The Mom of the Year, Karen from Baby Sideburns, Bethany from I Love Them Most When They're Sleeping....

I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, those awesome ladies and tons of others are in this book. Compiled by Jen, the mastermind of People I Want to Punch in the Throat, this second anthology is directed at husbands, boyfriends, significant others and better halves. Some rants, some stories, all entertaining!

From Meredith's husband's go at bee-keeping, Rebecca's husband's diaper-changing abilities (or lack thereof), Michelle's husband's bed-wetting experience to Karen's husband's bowel issues, this book is chock full of funny stuff. Some names you'll remember from Book 1 and some new names make up this amusing and entertaining look at life with men.

It's an easy read, you can do a chapter each time you sit down to pee (alone), while you're waiting for your gyno appointment with Dr. Jellyfinger or after your little crumbsnatchers go to sleep (again, for the 4th time) at night. Wherever you can sneak in a quick chapter, you won't be disappointed! Buy the book and visit the blogs of the amazingly funny ladies who make up "I Just Want to Be Alone." And tell 'em Snarky sent ya.

What's That, Snarky? A Giveaway??

That's right, Snarklings! I'm telling you right now that I have just finished a ridiculously funny book, and I'm giving away a FREE COPY of it. What book, you ask?? "You Have Lipstick On Your Teeth" which was edited by Leslie Marinelli (the Bearded Iris herself!) and contains absolutely hysterical essays from some of my all-time favorite bloggers. These bloggers are all bloggers who have been featured on the awesome site, In the Powder Room. One of these days I'm hoping to be invited to hang out with the cool chicks from the Powder Room but until then, I'll have to read  and admire them from afar.

But YOU get the chance to win a copy of their book "You Have Lipstick On Your Teeth" as well as a copy of our very own awesomely fantastic book "I Just Want to Pee Alone", which has now sold over 20,000 copies!!! I am so excited and proud of this book and I can't wait to share it with you.

Seriously, some of my favorite bloggers are here including Abby of Abby Has Issues who discusses how she would be okay with being a Consolation Prize Wife as opposed to a Trophy Wife.  Or how about Lady Estrogen, whose lady parts look like, um, a vegetable that one usually serves smothered in melted cheese!! MaNNaHaTTaMaMMa's Cautionary Tale about peri-menopause had me cracking up, not AT her but WITH her because it's happening to me AS I'M TYPING THIS.

I can't leave out my fellow Pee Book authors who are also featured in this book. There's Amy of Family is Funny, who talks about the ABC Club which is a club I'd definitely belong to. Because I'm definitely Anti-B.....sorry, you'll have to read this story to learn more. Allison of MotherhoodWTF cracked me up with her story of an oral dilemma. And my girl Frugalista Blog had me peeing in MY pants discussing peeing in her FRIEND'S pants. Yes, you read that right. There are so many fantastic bloggers in this book and I want YOU to have a copy. And a copy of MY book too! The contest runs until next Monday so Tweet daily and enter now! It's a Rafflecopter, so you know the deal. Go for it! And good luck!

Who wants a night out with the girls?

Who doesn't want a night out with the girls, right? I mean, we ALL need time away with our girlfriends, don't we? It's what keeps us sane. If we don't get a night out every so often, the terrorists win, right? So last year, the fabulous Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat organized a Ladies Night Out in her little town, and she was joined by a bunch of other moms who just wanted a night out. The evening was a success and a great time was had by all.

Well this year, after she masterminded the hilariously awesome book I Just Want to Pee Alone (in case you've lived under a rock, I co-authored that book with 36 other fantastically funny ladies) she has coordinated ANOTHER Moms Night Out, only this time, we're ALL joining in!

That's right, all across the U.S. on Wednesday, October 16 Moms EVERYWHERE are going out!  It's NATION WIDE!!  And it doesn't matter if you're Mom to kids, dogs, ferrets, or dust bunnies, YOU'RE INVITED!!  Since we are scattered all over the United States, there is a place for (almost) everyone to go out and enjoy National Night Out, a night of eating, drinking and peeing alone, with other Moms who all just want to pee alone. My night out will be held at Domestic located at 117 E. German St in Shepherdstown, WV on Wednesday night, October 16 from 7-10 p.m. When you walk in, just tell them you came to Pee Alone and they'll send you to the side room where we will be frolicking together and enjoying our freedom (if only for a few hours).

If you live near me in Shepherdstown, WV, I would absolutely LOVE for you to join me at Domestic for this National Night Out of fun and laughter. But if you don't live near me, don't fret, we're hosting this event all over the country!! Check out the I Just Want to Pee Alone Facebook Events page for a location near you! There are going to be Moms going out to eat, drink and pee alone in places like Minneapolis, Chicago, Morristown NJ, Houston, Lancaster PA, Boston, Indiana, Colorado, Kansas and MORE!! Check out the events page to see where YOU can join in the fun.

If you aren't close to any of the ladies hosting, don't be sad, because YOU can host your OWN National Night out! Just pick a location on October 16th, tell them you want to host a Moms Night Out and send out invites to your friends! Then send your details (location, time, address, etc) to Jen at "sweetsadiecreations @ gmail dot com" (but, you know, the real way, with all that stuff strung together) and she'll add your event to the Events page so that MORE people will find out and show up! How cool is that?

So save the date! Wednesday, October 16 7-10 p.m. Go out and have fun!!!

Too Much Information? No such thing! My interview!

The lovely and hilarious Johi from Confessions of a Corn Fed Girl does a TMI interview each Friday. Some of my I Just Want to Pee Alone co-authors have been featured in this series and each of these interviews has cracked me up. Well today, Johi interviewed me and gave me some really hard-hitting questions. I had to think long and hard before I answered them, and I hope you enjoy our conversation! You can read my interview here.

Tuesday Tirade, and randomness for your reading pleasure. Oh and a giveaway!

First off, let me just say this. I got a message to call my sister in law this morning, and when I called her, she told me that our step-mother had died through the night. Turns out my niece read about it this morning on the Book of Face. What a lovely way to find out that the woman who had been married to your Dad for over 30 years had died. :insert dripping sarcasm here:

I was not ever very close with her, but she was with my Dad for longer than he was with my Mom. 5 times longer, in fact, so she must've made him happy. When my Dad passed away in 2010, she was in a rehabilitation center for her hip, and she was not at the funeral. I did find this odd, but I was grieving the loss of my Dad and no one gave me any instruction to go to the rehab center and pick her up. Neither of her own children went to pick her up, and thus, she was not at his funeral. I lost touch with her after my Dad died, and yes, I'm fully to blame for not picking up the phone and trying to reach out to her. I DID, however, write her a letter after Dad's funeral. I told her that I was sorry we had our issues when I was younger and that I'm so glad Dad had her there to care for him and to spend his last days. She never responded.

I'm just really kinda pissed off that no one bothered to contact anyone on my Dad's side. I've got 3 brothers and a sister who live in the same city that the rest live in, yet we found out about her passing on Facebook. Remind me to send Zuckerberg a thank you for giving us an avenue to learn about the passing of a loved one.

Okay, now that I've got that off my chest, I'm going to move on to the next subject. Ebates. Ebates is this cool site that I was turned onto by another blogger before last Christmas. The way it works is this: You do a lot of online shopping, right? Me too. Just ask Discover, Chase and Citibank. Now you just go directly to the Ebates website, sign up for the FREE service, find your favorite store on their vast list of stores and then you shop as you normally would! Each store lists how much cash back they're offering for purchases. For example, let's say you like Sephora. Well in today's Ebates email that I received, Sephora is offering 8% cash back for shopping their website by first going through Ebates. Easy peasy. So you go to Ebates website, sign up, click on Sephora and shop. When you make your purchase, that 8% goes into your Ebates account. They send out checks every month or two. At Christmas, I did almost all of my shopping online through Ebates and received a check in February for over $100. My friend and sister in snark, Teresa, is up to some ridiculous amount of cash back (she apparently is a hard core Ebates shopper). I'mma ask her for a loan soon.

Ebates Coupons and Cash Back

So they are running a special offer right now where if I get people to sign up to use Ebates, I don't even have to BUY anything, they're giving me $10 for each person who signs up and make a minimum purchase of $25 from any of the stores listed on their site. Trust me, you'd have an easier time naming a store that's NOT on their site than you would trying to name all the stores that ARE there. So what do you say? Can you help a sister out? Go sign up on the Ebates site, it's free and if you make that $25 purchase, it'll get me $10. And it's all about making me money, right? Everybody's happy that way.

On another note, I put my blog on Bloglovin' which is cool because if you subscribe to a billion other blogs like I do, you can get all your newest favorite blog posts on this one site. If you're not subscribed already to Snarkfest, you can either subscribe to have my delivered hot and fresh (okay, the blog, not actually ME) to your email OR you can sign up for Bloglovin' and you can also subscribe to all your favorite bloggers there, and we'll ALL show up in your inbox daily if we've posted new stuff. There's a little button thingy on the right side that you can use for this.

Now, enough begging. Want to win some really cool stuff?? My friend Robyn from Hollow Tree Ventures, along with more than 20 other bloggers are hosting a Rafflecopter Giveaway involving some kick ass prizes!

Some of the prizes include our book, "I Just Want to Pee Alone", as well as the new books by Paige Kellerman, "At Least My Belly Hides My Cankles", and Abby Heugel', "Abby Still Has Issues", a $125 Amazon.com gift certificate and some cool Vera Bradley stuff as well! Go check it out and enter! I did. And if I win, I'll be giving away my copy of "I Just Want to Pee Alone". If I DON'T win, I'm STILL going to give it away. Stay tuned, a new giveaway from Snarkfest is coming up soon!

Friday night FUN

Last Friday night I had the absolutely pleasure of attending my very first book signing. And to make it more fun, it was MY book signing!! (Good thing too, because I'm thinking if I crashed a book signing and started signing books that I didn't write, the police may have to be called.) But it WAS my book signing and man, was it a good time. The lovely Kendra at Four Seasons Bookstore invited me to bring in about 45 of my closest friends and family and drink wine and eat cheese and crackers. Did I mention she's my new favorite book store manager on earth??

After a delicious dinner at Kazu, I stumbled two doors down to Four Seasons and when I got upstairs to where the book signing was held, there was already a crowd. Holy crap! They were there to see ME! I was so happy that Alicia from Naps Happen could join us for dinner and attend the book signing. It took the pressure off of me sitting up there alone, taking a chance on no one finding me funny, and quite possibly throwing rotten fruit at my head. But I am lucky that none of my friends have access to rotten fruit.

My wonderful and beautiful friend and neighbor, Kelley Craig of Kelley Craig Photography was so fantastic and brought along her camera to capture some great pictures of the event.

Are my teeth stained purple? I may or may not have had a glass or 3 of wine before and during the book signing.

Me trying to think up something witty to say. Being witty on command is hard!

Alicia read her story from I Just Want to Pee Alone and had the crowd rolling. She's gorgeous and really funny!

Look at how beautiful my friends are! I love them so much and I didn't even have to pay them to show up and laugh at my jokes.

I'm so glad no one brought any rotten fruit. Only fermented grapes. My FAVORITE.

This is probably the coolest image of my book I've ever seen. It probably has to do with the fact that I absolutely love the chick holding it.

The tart and tasty Teresa holding I Just Want to Pee Alone
You know who took that picture, don't you? I'll give you a hint: She's sexy, beautiful, amazing and talented.
I want to say thank you to everyone who was able to make that night so special. I felt like a rock star AND I didn't have to dodge any rotten fruit. Special thanks to Evil Joy for flying in from Wisconsin to join in the festivities and to Lisa the Nazi Crack Ho and to Sexy Suzie Q for the beautiful card and flowers. You guys are awesome beyond words.

It was standing room only and we almost had to take up a collection to pay Kendra's babysitter overtime pay because we were there WAY later than the book store's regular hours. What a blast! I should write books more often!

By the way, if you haven't already purchased a copy of either I Just Want to Pee Alone or the other book in which I have an essay, Parenting Gag Reel, you can grab them here.

Have you got 9 minutes? I'll make it worth your while.

We finally got the link to our interview on News Channel 8's morning show "Let's Talk Live" with Melanie and Natasha. Remember when I told you that Julie (from Rants from Mommyland), Bethany (from I Love Them Most When They're Sleeping) and I were headed down to DC to do an interview about the Pee Book?   Well here is a link to the actual interview! I wasn't really just making it up! If you've got 9 minutes to spare, you can hear all about how we believe Jen from People I Want to Punch in the Throat is actually an old Russian man with candy in his pants, or how Bethany's family is ready to disown her.

I would LOVE your feedback. Yes, that's right, positive or negative, give it to me. I can handle it.

Next up, I want to say a huge THANK GOD and I LOVE YOU to Lisa, my running partner, who was in Boston yesterday. She was in the area between where the bombs went off for about 7 hours waiting for our friend Diane to cross the finish line. She and their party left that area just 10 minutes before the bombs went off. So THANK YOU DIANE for being a fucking Speedy Gonzales, because 10 minutes could've been the difference between happiness and grief. Thank you, too, to all the first responders, volunteers and medical staff who ran to help those injured or worse just after the blasts. Thank you to all the runners and their family and friends who ran to the hospitals to donate blood. And thank you to the rest of the country for sending their love and support to the folks up in Boston.

I'm running 2 half marathons next month. One in Frederick MD and the other in Fredericksburg, VA. The second one is one I've done for 4 years now. It's one of my favorite half marathons because it's the Marine Corps Historic Half. Am I intimidated by what happened in Boston? No, I am not. Am I determined NOT to let fear of what could be ruin my life?  You bet. I am not ruled by fear. My Irish is up, I'm pissed, and I'm not going to let the actions of one or two sick assholes dictate the way I live my life.

Ok, now that I've gotten that off my chest, stay tuned because I'm doing ANOTHER giveaway this week! I'll be putting up another Rafflecopter for 4 (count 'em FOUR) downloads of the new book Parenting Gag Reel! Stay tuned, the Rafflecopter link will be up shortly!

Snarkfest, Your Mom-on-the-Street!

Hey Snarklings! Let me fill you in on the events of last Friday, now that I've had several free minutes to look back on it. I trucked my butt down to Arlington to the WJLA Television station where I met up with the awesome Julie of Rants from Mommyland and the amazing Bethany of I Love Them Most When They're Sleeping! Let me just tell you, these two crazy chicks are FREAKING FANTASTIC!!! We hit it off right away and became fast friends. After quick intros and some coffee and bonding, we headed into the studio where we were whisked back to where News channel 8's morning show, Let's Talk Live was being shot. We were due to go on around 11:20 to promote the awesome new book I Just Want to Pee Alone, maybe you've heard of it? Anyway it was at this point that I started feeling really nervous. Apparently I wasn't alone:
Me, Julie and Bethany, pre-vomit
We went on just after Dr. Katy and the adorable and adoptable and extremely slimey pitbull, Valentine, and just before the amazingly youthful grandparents, Iver and.......shit I can't remember the woman's name. I only remember her husband's name because I made a lame-ass joke about his name being Iver and asked if he was an engine driver. (ONLY hardcore Who fans will get that reference, and apparently, Iver's not one of them).

Ok, so we are getting ready to go on and we meet one of the beautiful co-hosts,  Melissa, Marnie, Melanie, who posed for pictures and made us feel right at home.

Melanie, me, Julie & Bethany, pre-show
Apparently Julie is a guest on the show about once a month and was quick to let us know that everyone on the show is absolutely amazing, so I instantly felt better.
By the way, thanks Iver, you're a great photographer even if you're not an engine driver
We did the show, we were awesome, and then AFTER our spot, the other co-host, the totally gorgeous Natasha, asked us to stick around so that she could do an interview with us for the ABC NEWS AT 5:00!!!!!!!! Channel 7!!! The BIG TIME!!!!! Sorry but there are NO pictures of me shitting my pants. She said that a federal judge had just issued a ruling that makes the RU486 (morning after) pill available over the counter to ANYONE, regardless of age. Used to be you needed a prescription and parental consent if you were under the age of 17. Guess what! Not anymore. My 13 year old baby could walk into Rite Aid, CVS or her pharmacy of choice and buy a morning after pill without me knowing about it. What did I think of this ruling?? See for yourself. Here I am on the 5:00 news!!! Julie went first because she's a regular on the show and I think she's sleeping with Natasha, but whatever. I'm okay with it.

I promise, once we get the link to our little 6 minute segment on Let's Talk Live, I'll post it so you can see how crazy we are and how much fun we had (and probably how nervous, scared and nauseous I was). Thank GOD I couldn't actually see myself on the monitors or I'd be all Cindy Brady, frozen and speechless. Shut up, I could be speechless. Maybe.

Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures: A Review

Since I received such good feedback on my first book report, I'm doing another one! How about that? This time, I'm reviewing Amber Dusick's hot new book, Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures and let me tell you, this book is not just funny. Not just amusing. This book is hilarious!
Now, I'm not going to lie to you. I just switched over from only DVD's on Netflix to also being able to stream movies/TV shows, so for me to take a break from watching the first full season of Bones, this book HAS to be awesome!!

Let's get one thing clear: I love the Crappy Family. Crappy Papa is awesome. (Except, of course, when he's sick, then he really IS Crappy Papa). One of my all-time favorite parts of this book was when the Crappy family went on a Crappy vacation and Crappy Boy had to pee and poop. The image of Crappy Papa holding Crappy Boy, barefoot, in the rain, in an alfalfa field while Crappy Boy became a pee and poop fountain had my sides hurting.

Dusick takes on all aspects of Crappy Parenting, from nursing to protecting your Crappy children from germs, from sickness to sleeping (or not), from the bad stuff to the good stuff, she covers it all in this book and I promise you, you will not regret buying and reading it. Have I ever lied to you before? Trust me, this shit's funny, and you need to buy it.

Know what else is funny? I Just Want to Pee Alone. THAT is also funny and well worth your time. So head on over to Amazon.com and check them both out. Buy them both or enter for a chance to WIN both of these fine and funny books along with a free download of the upcoming book, Parenting Gag Reel, scheduled for release on April 2. Check out my contest for more details on this giveaway!

Want to Win a FREE COPY of the Book??

How about 3?? That's right, I'm giving away 3 signed copies of the new book I'm in called I Just Want to Pee Alone! Here are the details. You love the Snark, or you wouldn't be here in the first place, am I right? So how about receiving Snarkfest in your email whenever I post a blog? Now you folks know how freaking lazy I am, so you don't have to worry about Snark Overload in your inbox. You know I'm lucky if I post 3 times a week. So do you see that little box over there on the right that says Subscribe via Email? It looks like this:

Ok all you need to do is type your email address in, click the "Subscribe" button,  then check your email for a link to verify that you want to subscribe. THAT'S IT!! Easy as pie!! If you are ALREADY subscribed by email, guess what! You're in!! The only other thing I ask is that everyone who either subscribes or is already subscribed leave me a comment under THIS blog post that says "Snarkfest, I love you, you're the best thing ever and I will bake you chocolate brownies for life!" Or something like that. You could also say "I'm subscribed, gimme my book". That's fine too. Either way, if you leave me a comment AND are a Snarkfest subscriber, YOU ARE ENTERED to win one of 3 signed copies of this awesome and thoroughly hilarious book, I Just Want to Pee Alone!

Don't wait! Subscribe and comment today! Or if you're subscribed, comment and tell me that! The 3 winners will be drawn one week from today on Monday, March 18. Good luck, my little Snarklings!

Free kittens and alcoholic beverages!

Now that I have your attention....

So we are literally just a few days away from the release of the book, I Just Want to Pee Alone. The 36 contributors and I are all busy driving Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat absolutely batshit crazy with all our questions. I wouldn't be surprised if she just closed up shop and changed her address and ignored us for the rest of our lives. Or just punched us all in the throat. But she's been just awesome in this whole process and I thank her PROFUSELY!!! Maybe I'll even thank her by giving her my first born!!

Nah, I do love my 15 very much.

Anyway, my point (and I really DO have one) is, I am going to offer the book through Amazon here on the blog for those who want to order it directly from Amazon. It will also be available on the Nook, the Kindle and from iTunes too! However, if you'd like to order a book with a personalized message from me, you can order it directly FROM me using the PayPal thingy. The only thing is, I'm getting ready to order some to have them ready to personalize and mail out, but I have NO clue how many to order up front.

So now I leave this in your hands. I know that some people just want the book and I'm totally okay with that. I LOVE you for that. I wanna have your BABIES for that (no I really don't, but I want you to know how much I appreciate it). But I'm looking for a show of hands, or a ME ME ME for those of you who may want a personalized copy for themselves, their Grandmas and Aunt Hesters. (I really don't recommend giving this book to anyone's Grandmas or Aunt Hesters, there are some pretty serious F bombs being dropped, at least in MY chapter, anyway).

Keep in mind I WILL be doing giveaways to some lucky Snarkfest readers, and to bloggers if they want to do giveaways on their blogs as well. So stay tuned, keep an eye on this page because before you know it, I Just Want to Pee Alone will be ready for your reading pleasure!!
