Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Wanna read an awesomely hilarious book?

Today's the day!!! I'm very excited to let you all know that Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat is releasing her latest book, Competitive Crafters, Drop-Off Despots and Other Suburban Scourges! I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy ('cause I'm special like that) and I gotta tell ya, I LOVED this book.

Photo courtesy: People I Want to Punch in the Throat
The book starts out with the story of how Jen met her husband, 'The Hubs' (here's a hint, she got all dolled up in her best farmer duds for the occasion), and then moves on to topics that made me shake my head in agreement on every page. From the competition to be 'room mom' to helping out at different tables at the school's fair, Jen proves how douchey parents can really be. We all know the assbag moms, the one uppers, the ones who have to be the big cheeses, and we all know they're assbags. Jen just has the balls to come out and say it.

Her love for her cleaning lady was heartwarming (if you could call it that), a sort of girl meets cleaning lady, girl loses cleaning lady, cleaning lady rushes back into girl's arms. LOVED that.

Her tales of going to parties, TOY parties (wink wink, nudge nudge) cracked me up. Her talk of breastfeeding made me jump up and go "ME TOO!!" And when she got stuck in the carpool lane at school in fuzzy pajamas and couldn't leave the car, despite her son being missing, I lost it. This book is totally relatable, and totally hilarious.

I love Jen, I love her blog and I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! So what are you waiting for? Go! Buy! Read! Laugh!

I Just Want to Be Alone...

I was supposed to write this review when the book first came out, but then life happened. Overwhelmed with band, volleyball, track, more band, work, house, dogs, band again....you get the idea. So now I'm making good on my word to review the book "I Just Want to Be Alone." The book is the follow-up anthology to the equally hilarious "I Just Want to Pee Alone." (I was in that!)

When I got this book from Amazon, I immediately searched for the essays of some of my favorite bloggers: Michelle from You're My Favorite Today, Rebecca from Frugalista Blog, Meredith from The Mom of the Year, Karen from Baby Sideburns, Bethany from I Love Them Most When They're Sleeping....

I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, those awesome ladies and tons of others are in this book. Compiled by Jen, the mastermind of People I Want to Punch in the Throat, this second anthology is directed at husbands, boyfriends, significant others and better halves. Some rants, some stories, all entertaining!

From Meredith's husband's go at bee-keeping, Rebecca's husband's diaper-changing abilities (or lack thereof), Michelle's husband's bed-wetting experience to Karen's husband's bowel issues, this book is chock full of funny stuff. Some names you'll remember from Book 1 and some new names make up this amusing and entertaining look at life with men.

It's an easy read, you can do a chapter each time you sit down to pee (alone), while you're waiting for your gyno appointment with Dr. Jellyfinger or after your little crumbsnatchers go to sleep (again, for the 4th time) at night. Wherever you can sneak in a quick chapter, you won't be disappointed! Buy the book and visit the blogs of the amazingly funny ladies who make up "I Just Want to Be Alone." And tell 'em Snarky sent ya.

Have you got 9 minutes? I'll make it worth your while.

We finally got the link to our interview on News Channel 8's morning show "Let's Talk Live" with Melanie and Natasha. Remember when I told you that Julie (from Rants from Mommyland), Bethany (from I Love Them Most When They're Sleeping) and I were headed down to DC to do an interview about the Pee Book?   Well here is a link to the actual interview! I wasn't really just making it up! If you've got 9 minutes to spare, you can hear all about how we believe Jen from People I Want to Punch in the Throat is actually an old Russian man with candy in his pants, or how Bethany's family is ready to disown her.

I would LOVE your feedback. Yes, that's right, positive or negative, give it to me. I can handle it.

Next up, I want to say a huge THANK GOD and I LOVE YOU to Lisa, my running partner, who was in Boston yesterday. She was in the area between where the bombs went off for about 7 hours waiting for our friend Diane to cross the finish line. She and their party left that area just 10 minutes before the bombs went off. So THANK YOU DIANE for being a fucking Speedy Gonzales, because 10 minutes could've been the difference between happiness and grief. Thank you, too, to all the first responders, volunteers and medical staff who ran to help those injured or worse just after the blasts. Thank you to all the runners and their family and friends who ran to the hospitals to donate blood. And thank you to the rest of the country for sending their love and support to the folks up in Boston.

I'm running 2 half marathons next month. One in Frederick MD and the other in Fredericksburg, VA. The second one is one I've done for 4 years now. It's one of my favorite half marathons because it's the Marine Corps Historic Half. Am I intimidated by what happened in Boston? No, I am not. Am I determined NOT to let fear of what could be ruin my life?  You bet. I am not ruled by fear. My Irish is up, I'm pissed, and I'm not going to let the actions of one or two sick assholes dictate the way I live my life.

Ok, now that I've gotten that off my chest, stay tuned because I'm doing ANOTHER giveaway this week! I'll be putting up another Rafflecopter for 4 (count 'em FOUR) downloads of the new book Parenting Gag Reel! Stay tuned, the Rafflecopter link will be up shortly!

Big Pimpin'

Pimping out some more of my fellow collaborators for the new book so you'll have an idea just how funny these chicks are! First up, The Dose of Reality with Lisa and Ashley taking a page RIGHT out of my book with their discussion of the state of their households in For the Love Of God...Use the Back Door.

Next up is the hilarious Bad Parenting Moments, as she discusses the utter joy (NOT) of dining out with small children in Check, please!

One of my very good friends Tracy at Momaical just blows me away every time I read her blog and since I can't decide which of these two is the funniest, I'm going to let YOU, dear Snarklings, be the judge. First up is her new commercial, destined to win a Clio, Shut the Fucupcakes. And, IMO, equally as hilarious, is her description of her trip to the gynecologist with her two daughter in tow. Here is Gynecology Gone Wild!

Here is a gem from Jen at People I Want to Punch in the Throat. Her Valentine to her one true love......Tina Fey, in For My Secret Valentine. One of these days Jen will get to meet her secret girl crush and I hope I'm there to witness it!

Last pimpout of the evening is one from Random Handprints who is on a tirade about the number of bake sales at her kids' school. I leave you with Bake Sale Mania Makes Me a Maniac.

I hope you love these ladies and find them as funny as I do!!

Free kittens and alcoholic beverages!

Now that I have your attention....

So we are literally just a few days away from the release of the book, I Just Want to Pee Alone. The 36 contributors and I are all busy driving Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat absolutely batshit crazy with all our questions. I wouldn't be surprised if she just closed up shop and changed her address and ignored us for the rest of our lives. Or just punched us all in the throat. But she's been just awesome in this whole process and I thank her PROFUSELY!!! Maybe I'll even thank her by giving her my first born!!

Nah, I do love my 15 very much.

Anyway, my point (and I really DO have one) is, I am going to offer the book through Amazon here on the blog for those who want to order it directly from Amazon. It will also be available on the Nook, the Kindle and from iTunes too! However, if you'd like to order a book with a personalized message from me, you can order it directly FROM me using the PayPal thingy. The only thing is, I'm getting ready to order some to have them ready to personalize and mail out, but I have NO clue how many to order up front.

So now I leave this in your hands. I know that some people just want the book and I'm totally okay with that. I LOVE you for that. I wanna have your BABIES for that (no I really don't, but I want you to know how much I appreciate it). But I'm looking for a show of hands, or a ME ME ME for those of you who may want a personalized copy for themselves, their Grandmas and Aunt Hesters. (I really don't recommend giving this book to anyone's Grandmas or Aunt Hesters, there are some pretty serious F bombs being dropped, at least in MY chapter, anyway).

Keep in mind I WILL be doing giveaways to some lucky Snarkfest readers, and to bloggers if they want to do giveaways on their blogs as well. So stay tuned, keep an eye on this page because before you know it, I Just Want to Pee Alone will be ready for your reading pleasure!!

The Competition is Tough....

Self-promotion is not something I'm all that comfortable with, but in this case, I'm going to make an exception. A bunch of amazing bloggers are all competing for a coveted spot as one of the Top 25 Funny Moms 2013. I am not looking to even be in the top 10, as I don't believe myself to be anywhere near as talented as the likes of The Bearded Iris, Divine Secrets of a Domestic Diva, Holdin Holden, I Want a Dumpster Baby or People I Want To Punch In The Throat. They are all amazing ladies and I read them all the time. What I would LOVE to achieve is to be in the final 25 when the voting ends on February 13th. So I'm posting this link and asking that everyone who reads Snarkfest please click the link and vote for Snarkfest to try to move me into the Top 25. Right now I'm at number 30 and I'm in the amazing company of  Ninja Mom Blog, Somewhat Sane Mom and Frugalista Blog. I want us ALL to be in the top 25.

Please go to the link, vote for Snarkfest and help me get into the Top 25. Vote every day. I've got cookies in the oven and I'm baking them for YOU for voting for me. If you're trying to lose weight, I'll take one for the team and EAT those cookies for you so YOU don't gain the extra weight. The things I do because I love you.

Thanks!!

Want a good laugh? Got some free time? Read on...

In today's blog post, I'm going to share with you some of the funniest and most awesome people I don't know in person. How about that? I wish I knew them, and I do hope, one day, to meet a great many of them. But for now, I'll just have to admire them from afar. In no particular order:

Kim from The Fordeville Diaries. Kim's letter from her dog, Senor, threatening legal action cracked me up. Today, Kim shares with us how she shoves her 20 weeks-pregnant body into maternity spanks. Enjoy My Cirque du Soleil Audition

Tina from There Must Be A Third Option. My first look at Tina's blog got me hooked when I saw her tagline that says: ...because I can't find any gypsies to buy my kids, and I'm too tired to run away from home. I used to say ALL THE TIME that I was going to sell my kids to the gypsies. Tina's son Red has a penchant for not wearing pants. And fire trucks. And giraffes. He's quite the little charmer. Please read Nonsensical Sense and Illogical Logic: Why it is Tough Raising Redheads

Tracy from Momaical. Tracy cracks me up. A lot. She started our newest venture, The Epistolarians and is just a full of awesome ideas and is simply hilarious. One of my favorite posts of Tracy's is Shut the Fucupcakes. And her post about her trip to the gyno with her darling children in tow is just too funny not to share. So funny, in fact, that it's featured in No Laughing Allowed, the new blog collection put out by A Life Well Blogged.

Joy from Evil Joy Speaks. Joy and I have become fast friends. She's got 4 kids, a husband, and 2 pups. She lives in the Arctic Circle known as Wisconsin and has really taken to snowboarding. She posts about her life and her kids and her hubby and she never disappoints.

Michelle from You're My Favorite Today. Michelle has an obsession fascination really likes Scott Baio and was so excited when he favorited one of her tweets she nearly peed exploded lost her mind. She and I have similar tastes in men (I loved Chachi more than Joanie did, just sayin') as you can see from her post on George Clooney. She never fails to make me laugh.

Nicole at Ninja Mom Blog. Nicole opens her blog every month for the Character Assassination Carousel, and if you remember my blog post We're Going On A Bear Hunt, you'll remember that it was featured on Nicole's blog. She's generous, warm and freaking hysterical. Nicole was recently featured in the In-faux-mercial, Wine-Not? One of my faves, for sure.

Paige at Paige Kellerman. Paige recently had a baby, Doc Holiday to add to her posse, Butch and Sundance. She is pee-myself funny and I love seeing a new post from her in my inbox. Her breakup letter to Oreos is heart-wrenchingly hysterical.

Jen at People I Want To Punch In The Throat. Jen is sarcastic, snarky and funny as shit. Her Valentine to Tina Fey is side-splittingly funny. Her review of Magic Mike was spot on. And her post on ultrasound parties just cracked me up.

There are a megafuck ton of great bloggers out there. These are just a handful. To see more (Jesus how much time to you HAVE anyway??) go check out My Favorite Blogs page.

Stay snarky, my friends.
