Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Wow, do I hate the media...

Donald Sterling is a racist. He's been banned for life from the NBA. Yawn. I've been listening to CNN for the past 30 minutes. I've heard how the tapes are illegal. I've heard about how he has cancer. I've heard about the crisis in the Ukraine. And now they are touting Anthony Bourdain's new show, Parts Unknown. What I have NOT heard, however, is ANYTHING about the over 230 Nigerian school girls who were kidnapped from where they slept at their school by a radical Islamic group. Now reports are saying these young girls are being forced into marriage with their kidnappers. God knows what other atrocities are being committed against them.

For a month straight, all we heard on CNN was the fate of the passengers on MH370. Over 230 people perished (probably) on that flight. I couldn't change a channel without hearing about that story. I'm not a cold, hard-hearted person (shut up, I have a heart in there!) and my heart breaks for the victims on that flight and for their families. The NOT knowing just has to be devastating.

But that's not the only thing going on in the world. Don't these kidnap victims in Nigeria, these innocent school girls, deserve the same amount of media coverage?? Those girls are (hopefully) still alive! Where is the public outcry? Where is the offer of government help from other countries to find them? Where is the outrage? What is the difference between 230 Nigerian school girls and 230 Malaysian Airline passengers?

My heart is breaking for those innocent girls, while CNN, once again, shows yet another Donald Sterling story. And another breakdown of the MH370 story.

Heartbreaking.

  1. Anything stoopid that an Evil Rich White Guy says, CNN will jump on like a duck on a June Bug. Meanwhile, these poor children are undergoing God knows what. CNN is beyond redemption, but I shall fervently pray for these little girls.

    1. I'm with you, Toby, they are all chasing the almighty dollar. Missing aircraft gets it, kidnapped poor school children apparently don't. Too sad.

  2. You said it for me.

I loathe the media. It's biased and I don't care what side you're on, they only report what they think will get them ratings. And THAT'S it. And that's not news. That's entertainment.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but on the treadmill at the gym the other day...I looked over at my husband next to me and said, "For the love of God is NOTHING else going on in the damn world besides this plane shit??"

For days upon days upon days I walked that treadmill for an hour. And every CNN, MSNBC, etc. news show was nothing and I mean nothing but repetitive coverage of the plane. No new info, just the same old reports over and over. For days. And days.

Sorry for my rant, but there was a 3 year old stabbed in the neck by some lame ass loser that should have NEVER been released from jail (I think in Houston...about 3 hours from me). HAS THAT BEEN ON THE NEWS??

    Uh, no.

Us little people don't matter to the media. Just those with money. And anything that will make the government and politicians look somewhat decent.

  3. Gah, I agree on all counts. I had to google it, and found this article.

The whole situation is so sad. I've never heard of the Boko Haram group - thank you lack of media covering vital news vs celebrity news. I'd love for you to take a poll on how many know who the Boko Haram is vs those who know who North West is. Thank you for intriguing me to search on this so I'm in the know.

  4. I've been ranting for days. If they were north American or European the media would be all over it...

  5. 1. Can you imagine if your TV was *stuck* on CNN? I might just duct-tape the screen.

    2. Stories such as those atrocities you mentioned would require reporting and research, not talking heads and video feeds.

    3. Turn down the sound and turn on NPR.

  7. This world is pretty messed up at times. The media just wants ratings so they go for the sensational stories over and over. I sometimes just avoid the news now. Just hope those girls get rescued. So sad.

  8. It makes me cringe to think how much ACTUAL news we're missing out on in the world because of the pick and choose nature of the media. Horrific. If I hadn't heard about this from you and another blogger, it wouldn't have been on my radar. Praying so hard for them.

    1. It is mind-boggling, Paige. I'm sure there's so much that doesn't get reported because it wouldn't get ratings.

  9. Thank you for voicing this. I was watching coverage of the devastating tornadoes in the south and CNN broke in with more news about Donald Sterling. WHO CARES! We miss so many truly important stories in the world because the media has not deemed them important. Thanks for sharing.
