Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Songs That Take You Back...

Sometimes a song will take you back. Sometimes to good times and sometimes to times you'd rather forget. Today I heard J.D. Souther's You're Only Lonely and was immediately transported back to the roller skating rink when I was in 8th grade. I had a HUGE crush on a boy named Billy Nushooz (that's how it was pronounced, don't ask me how to really spell it). I loved him from afar and I'm sure he knew it. I wasn't all that discreet in my making puppy dog eyes at him. And after writing Mrs. Billy Nushooz and Mr. and Mrs. Billy and Teri Nushooz for a year, I finally got the courage to ask him to skate during a ladies choice couples skate.

AND HE SAID YES!!!!

You're Only Lonely was the first song that we skated to, and we remained out on the floor, holding hands and skating in a circle when the song Babe by Styx came on. Today, every time I hear the first few synthesizer notes of Babe, I immediately go back to that night, that couples skate and think of Billy Nushooz.

Billy never felt the same way about me. That was a recurring theme in my younger days. I was always the puppy dog across the room, crushing on a different guy and not having those same feelings returned. I was a lonely teenager, J.D. was right. Lucky for me, I outgrew that teenage angst. But during those years, my heart was broken more times than I care to remember.

What songs take YOU back? Good times or bad?

  1. It is SO cool that you posted this, because I just heard a song yesterday that took me back, and I wrote a post about it, too! I haven't posted it yet, but I will alert the masses when I do. :) It was Please Tell Me Why by Blink 182. Good times, good times.

  2. Just yesterday I heard Do You Really Want to Hurt Me by Culture Club. I swear I got transported right back to 8th grade for a few seconds. I think I actually felt a little anxious too, like I did back in junior high. It is funny how powerful music can be.

  3. Wow, the roller rink couples skate really takes me back! It's hard to pick just one song that takes me back, so I'll pick one I just heard the other day on Sirius radio that, I swear to God, made me feel like I was back on the dance floor at the Akron Agora circa 1984. It's Synchronicity II by The Police. LOVE that song!

  4. WOW! I totally forgot about this song! I was nine when this song was on the radio, so just a little younger than you. Music does for me what food or smells do for others. I relate everything in my life to songs. I don't know what I would do without music, quite honestly. It is my air. :)

  5. I love "You're Only Lonely" AND "Babe." I am old, so I was in college when they came out. Songs have always been attached to memories for me, but the first one that popped into my head when you asked the question was "Kiss You All Over" by Exile....

  6. OMG I loved Styx when I was in college! My boyfriend lived out of town, so whenever he came to visit and then had to leave, I would play that song and cry…hopeless romantic that I was! Any Journey song brings back a TON of memories for me…and they're ALL good LOL!

  7. Too many songs to list here. As a child of the 80's I grew up in the hair metal era. From the hard rocking tunes, to the ballads. It was all about big hair, ripped jeans, going to the beach, and hooking uo with girls each weekend at the clubs. It was a fun time to be alive.
