Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Do you believe in ghosts? Spirits? Spooky Stuff?

It's October, the witching month!! (ok I totally made that shit up) but it is the time of year when you start seeing pumpkins, witches, ghouls, goblins and the like everywhere. In store fronts, at garden centers and even in your neighborhood, the Halloween decorations are all over the place. In getting into that spirit, I pose a question to all of my wonderful snarklings: Do you believe in ghosts?

One of my friends just posted on Facebook that she thought that her house was haunted. She said she saw a male ghost in her house and naturally freaked out. The next day her husband said he saw the same thing but thought it was a dream so he didn't mention it. Yesterday, she said her little girl saw it as well and was extremely freaked out about it (as anyone would be!) This is not an isolated incident among my friends. I have many friends and neighbors who say they see creepy things in their houses, and believe that they may actually inhabit haunted houses.

Not all of them are scary, some of them are playful and some are completely harmless. But there are just too many of them to just discount or write off. I do enjoy watching Jay and Grant on Ghost Hunters (well, I did before Grant left), and always get excited when they actually do happen to capture the rare image on video (that you can actually make out) or a creepy voice on the voice recorders. But do I actually believe in ghosts? Do I think that they are out there and they are all around us? Truthfully? I really don't know. I used to have night terrors (sometimes I still do) where I'd wake up half way and see things, bugs, beings, whatever and I'd start screaming! My husband LOVES when I do that. (Sorry honey). Is that related to any kind of haunting or am I just really in a deep fugue and imagine wasps flying around in my bedroom? Is there really someone walking into my bedroom, uninvited and unwelcomed? Or is my imagination really going to town? Who knows?

But I'd love to hear your stories. Tell me what you believe, what your thoughts are on ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night. Don't be afraid, I'll hold your hand......

  1. I'm terrified of the dark - has nothing to do with ghosts but still don't leave myself many opportunities to be alone in the dark.

One of my co-workers (when my boss wasn't my spawn) used to say he believed in spirits and when he'd see them he'd say, "If you're not from God, you're not welcome here."

    That alone freaked me out.

I always wonder if the images my brain captures but doesn't always process hold more than I think. I'm not sure what i believe. I think my beliefs have changed since Dr. Evil was created a bit. I have my doubts but I prayed something fierce for a long long time. I guess I think there are spirits here with messages and maybe unfinished business. Sort of like that Long Island Medium person - she seems pretty normal - which is weird.

    So....long comment with no content....sorry!

You inspired me to get out my Halloween decorations on this COLD (29 degree) night. Enjoy your trip!!!!

    1. 29 degrees??? Wow, I was just checking the weather for AC and it's going to be in the high 70's Saturday and 54 on Sunday and I was thinking THAT was going to be chilly!!

I think that I do believe that there are those with unfinished business but I guess I just don't want to believe in anything evil. I see enough evil in REAL living breathing people, ya know?

  2. I actually come from a long list of family who have ,on one occasion or another, experienced paranormal activity! Am I afraid? Naw.....nothing I've witnessed ever scared me in that way! In our house, I've heard voices asking me questions or walking when no one was home. I'll give you one example. I was in the basement, doing laundry, when I heard someone walking. Everyone else in the family was gone, so I yelled.."Hello?". After a minute..a voice said, "What are you doing?" For some weird reason, I got goosebumps. I simply said, "Doing laundry." I remember our cat Bootsie was down there with me and he even looked up at the stairs. Ok..I was a little freaked out. I walked upstairs, looked around, checked the back and front door( still closed),looked out the window to see if any other cars were there,(just mine),walked up the other stairs to the bedrooms, looked around..nothing.
I have other things that have happened to people in my family in the house but I'll wait to tell you in person!
So do I believe in ghosts and spirits? I'd have to say YES!!

    1. So Bootsie sensed it too!? Yikes!! Very cool that it's not something that makes you feel threatened in any way. :)

  3. I have seen quite a few spooky things but I'll share just one. In my parents house, the bedroom that was mine for most of my teen years definitely had a presence. If my bed was one side of the room I could sense something across the room. I moved my bed at one point to the "offending" side. When I slept I could sense something near my bed. Somehow it didn't frighten me but unsettled me. One night I woke from a deep sleep and sat bolt upright, snapping the light on. For a flash instant I could see her, a messy haired, very curious adolescent girl. I said "What do you want?!!!!?" and she was gone. After that somehow I never sensed her again. Maybe she simply wanted to be seen. She was the friendliest of my ghosts.

  4. Two friends of mine and I decided to conduct a seance in my living room to contact one friend's dead fiance. Nope, not a good idea. For about three or four months following that night, cabinet doors would open when no one was in the room, then slam shut. Lights would turn on when everyone was in the other room. My sweet Trouble (RIP) seemed to have a fascination with one particular closet. The last straw was the night I heard footsteps in the living room, opened my bedroom door just as my then roommate was opening his, we both asked each other "Was that you?" and when we both responded "No," slammed our doors shut and locked them. That was the same night I told the ghost, "Look, I don't care if you hang out, but cut out this cabinets & lights shit, and please walk a little more softly, I'm trying to sleep!"

After that, it never came back.

    1. I have heard that things like a seance is almost like inviting spirits into your house. I'm glad the cabinet opening and closing eventually stopped. That would FREAK me out!

  5. I just did a post on my daughters "fwend." And, the information she was telling me was too specific to be arbitrary. So, yes. I believe in souls of the past coming to visit.

I have witnessed some bizarre things and it is a little unnerving. I have not had any recent events and I am glad.

    1. Some of the neighbors here have had some odd things happen, Lis. Have you heard Karra's story and Kelley's?

  7. I believe in "ghosts" but in a different sense. I believe that energy can get left behind and stay with a person always. We've moved a lot, but I still get a whiff of my grandma's perfume (she's been gone for 20 years) or my husband smells cigarettes and coffee (his Dad's way of letting him know he's here). One of the more touching stories is that my husband smelled that in the operating room the day our daughter was born.

    1. Now THAT is a very cool story. Spooky scary stories are one thing but something like that, that brings to mind fond memories, that's comforting!

I do read all comments and try to respond to them. Unless you're trying to get me to visit your website: Cheap Louis Vuitton Bags. Then you can go pound sand.
