Welcome to Snarkfest
Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Better Things on FX AND a GIVEAWAY!!
UPDATE:
ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF THE BETTER THINGS SWAG GIVEAWAY:
KATHERINE COBB!!
CONGRATULATIONS KATHERINE!!
Hey Snarklings, have you heard of the new show on FX called Better Things? I watched the pilot episode last Thursday and aside from the fact that the main character Sam (played to perfection by Pamela Adlon) is a part-time porn star, I can totally relate to almost everything else that she deals with. While she has 3 daughters and I have 2, what she deals with is so relatable. That's probably the best word to describe the show: relatable.
As the pilot opens, her youngest is throwing a fake tantrum because she isn't getting her way. Been there, dealt with that. Then she deals with her teenager and the full-on attitude that comes with the teen years. Um, hello? Is there a TV camera hidden in my car?? Her middle child is a bit of an enigma. I haven't figured her out yet except for the fact the she barges into her mom's room despite Sam's repeated warnings to NOT come into her room. Who among us with kids EVER HAS PRIVACY? Again: relatable.
So far, after watching the pilot episode, I feel for Sam as a single mom. She wants the best for her daughters but while our children ARE our world, there has to be more, right? Is it wrong of us to want some alone time? Is it wrong to want a connection to more than just what our kids need? No, it's not. We love our kids but we deserve adult interaction, we NEED it. And so far, Sam needs it and I can totally relate to her. I'm looking forward to this week's episode to see what happens next. You can watch Better Things on FX on Thursday nights at 10:00 pm EST. But be warned, Better Things is for mature audiences only. Did I mention the main character is a part-time porn star? Yeah, no kids watching, please.

Overwhelmed by everything! Work, munchkin, home, husband... balance?! Hah, what a load of bs...
ReplyDeleteTruth!
DeleteI get overwhelmed when we have too much planned for one day multiple days in a row. The kids do to. When they get overwhelmed their behavior gets shitty and then I get pissy and we fall apart. It's no fun. I need to tune into this show. If you like it-I know I will!
ReplyDeleteYou won't be disappointed Kim!
DeleteWouldn't it be easier to list what doesn't overwhelm me? Right now, the never ending dog hair is aggravating me. I can vacuum up a whole new animal and an hour later there's another one floating around mating with the dustbunnies.
ReplyDeleteNext contest, what DOESN'T overwhelm you.
Deleteoverwhelmed? Responsibilities. Can't someone else get MY dog to go out for a pee? How come I have to decide what everyone else eats for dinner? Half the time I don't want to make food, much less cook, indoors or out. Or just tell me when we run out of anything. What's the point of telling me AFTER I went to the store?
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling your pain!! Did you fill out the doc so you can be entered to win?
DeleteLaundry - it never ends! Think you're finished? Check your kid's rooms!
ReplyDeleteChecking the kids' rooms is FRIGHTENING and overwhelming on its own!
DeleteWhat overwhelms me? Depends on the day! Today, it's:
ReplyDeleteLaundry
Dinner. I don't mind the cooking, it's the planning. Why do these people need to eat every damn day?
:)
Lisa
Being a work at home mom with two toddlers underfoot. I want to give them my full attention but that's not always possible.
ReplyDeleteHow you manged to write a book, stay so fit and look so good leaves me in awe.
DeleteI don't have kids, but being single means ya have to do everything yourself (I know, I know a lot of times moms have this problem, too). Anyway, I mostly get overwhelmed by domestic duties like laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. Sometimes I wish I could hire people do this stuff so that I could have more "me" time. A girl can dream!
ReplyDeleteWe should ALL have a staff to do ALL the things for us.
DeleteHaving to clean when I get home from work, and all I want is a glass of wine and my bed!
ReplyDeleteRed or white? I'm pouring!
DeleteLooks so good!! Can totally relate, too (well, except for the part-time porn star --nobody want to see me with that job! LOL)
ReplyDeleteVERY relatable. Thanks LM!!
DeleteSo many things! Lately, it's planning my son's bar mitzvah, which is in 2 months. Not so much the event itself, but family and ex-MIL drama around said event. I'm on the verge of requiring certain key people to take a Xanax before they're allowed into the party.
ReplyDeleteYou could give them out as party favors.
DeletePutting the laundry away is what overwhelms me! I don't mind the washing it's the actual putting away that I HATE
ReplyDeleteYou wash and dry, I'll put away!
DeleteMy kids are grown & have lives of their own now but, once upon a time, I was a single mother raising 3 girls & 1 boy (he is the youngest). Just being a single parent was overwhelming in of itself. All those decisions 2 people made, you make by yourself. And forget any "personal" time. It's amazing how many "life threatening" events happen at 2AM.
ReplyDeleteThose events make those "peed the bed at 2:00 am" look better and better, don't they?
DeleteWhat overwhelms me is the 40 places my girls need to be at.....all at the same time!! Lol. It's a never-ending battle!! Thank God 16 still is driving MY car, to take everyone else to the places they need to be!! Lol
ReplyDeleteTotally helps to alleviate the pressure when they can drive, but brings a whole NEW set of worries, right?
DeleteOn Tuesdays and Wednesdays I feel overwhelmed cause I have to make sure I am home by 2:15pm (praying all the time I don't hit traffic) to take my son to practice that is 2 hours away. Always hoping the school bus is on time coming home. He gets home at 2:30pm and we have to leave for our adventure by 2:45pm. We get 15 minutes to make sure all baseball equipment is in the car, dinner is with us, and school book bag goes along so he can do his homework while driving up the Turnpike. Unfortunately baseball is year around but I guess the good thing is I only have 3 years left. PS Thank you for suggesting the show - will check it out.
ReplyDeleteTwo hours away? Jenn you're in the running for Mom of the Year!! Totally in awe.
DeleteI'm overwhelmed with trying to meet writing deadlines, especially since I've been suffering from a bout of Writers Block!
ReplyDeleteBeen dealing with writers block as well, Marcia!
DeleteI'm overwhelmed when I realize that, after a full day of work and the ex is out of town, that soccer practices and scout meeting nights (2 different places/2 different kids) are all up to me with an extra kid in tow, and I come home late to a dirty kitchen and laundry that needs to be done.
ReplyDeleteThis parenting gig is rough!
DeleteOverwhelmed by the "collectors" (translation:packrats) that share my home. Seriously, is it necessary to have 276 Nerf darts in the arsenal? Do we really need to store the end tables that we bought at a yard sale circa 1992 so that "the kids can have them when (ahem, if..who will take him in with 276 Nerf darts?) they move out?" Are those loved (obliterated) copies of "Captain Underpants" buried in the depths of the closet (under mounds of turf turds) really going to be cherished by your own children in 15 years? No. The answer to ALL OF THE ABOVE is NO. So yes I'm overwhelmed and could really use some wine. A goody bag would be great too. And some trash bags. Lots and lots of those please!
ReplyDeleteAgain, red or white? I'm buying!
DeleteIm overwhelmed too often! It wouldnt be because IM a procrastinator would it??!!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy talk right there.
DeleteUmmm, life?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Foxy!!
DeleteI agree ^^ life, lol
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone, KB.
DeleteContinuing to raise my (24 yr old) grandson who is socially and emotionally delayed, and his (20 yr old) girlfriend who moved in about six months ago, and is even more delayed than he is, is stressing me to the max. My social security and pension barely cover monthly expenses, and though my grandson works, he works at Walmart. Enough said?
ReplyDeleteTotally enough, kudos to you for handling it all!
DeleteI'm overwhelmed by a lot these days, but what overwhelms me the most is the fear of not having enough money to survive on each week. The cost of living is making it so hard to live.
ReplyDeleteThe future's uncertain and the end is always near
DeleteI have been OVERWHELMED (I need a bigger font for this) lately with a kindergartener who doesn't want to go to kindergarten. There are tears MOST mornings. Mine.
ReplyDeleteThis too shall pass Mel!!
DeleteLooks like a cool show. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it as much as I did, T!
DeleteSince one daughter is a junior in college (and thisclose to being TWENTY-ONE and the other is suddenly a sophomore in high school and talking about where she wants to apply to college) I've been overwhelmed with my EMOTIONS lately. And by lately I mean the past three years. :P
ReplyDeleteI've got the wine ready for you when we finally meet and hug the hurt out!
DeleteThe constant juggling of family, work, and trying to find "me" time is overwhelming. There are not enough hours in the day!
ReplyDeleteMe time is hard to come by!
DeleteRight at this moment the one thing that is overwhelming me are some extended family issues.
ReplyDeleteHope things lighten up soon Tuesday!
DeleteWhen the kids need to be at different activities at the same time at opposite ends of town!
ReplyDeleteSo you can't be in two places at one time yet?
DeleteAt the moment, I'm overwhelmed with work and kids. Both are good things. Now to make them work together! LOL
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that Crystal!!!
DeleteCooking dinner overwhelms me! Finding the recipe, getting half way done with it and then realizing I forgot to buy the ONE key ingredient!
ReplyDeleteI've got your missing ingredient anytime you need it Susanne!
DeleteYou had me at porn star.
ReplyDeleteI KNEW it, Elly!!!
DeleteThis sounds like my kind of show!@
ReplyDeleteTotally is, Sarah!
DeleteI'm overwhelmed by all these comments. LOL It's great to see so many people reading your blog and the show sounds cool. I don't often try watching a lot of new shows because there are just so dang many and I need to get roped into another one like I need another toddler. I love being on the flip side of motherhood right now...my kids are older, either in college or beyond and so rarely do I feel aggravated by them. My middle son just got married. Talk about overwhelming...in a good way. It was a huge milestone — beautiful, unique and full of happy oozy good feelings!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you Katherine! Things are coming together for you with the book and family is doing well. MUCH love!
DeleteLife. I am overwhelmed by life. I love this post. :)
ReplyDelete<3 to you Michelle
DeleteLaundry. Cleaning. Packing. Moving. More cleaning. Unpacking. More cleaning. Grocery shopping for new house. I HATE GROCERY SHOPPING. More cleaning. More laundry. Work. Kids schools and bands and homework and girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how the whole process works out.
Sounds like you've got a little going on in your life Heather! Good luck!
DeleteOverwhelmed by TRYING TO FINISH MY LATE TAXES. AGHHH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the tax man will wait, Smash!
DeleteOverwhelms me? People finding out I used to be a part-time porn star. JK. That my daughter needs to take the SATs this year. THAT overwhelms me!
ReplyDeletePart-time? That's not what I heard. And I'm with you! Mine will be taking them soon too. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??
DeleteIs everything an answer? I pick Everything for $800 Alex! Oops...Teri ;-) ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe yard work overwhelms me, we live on 5 acres and it seems to be neverending, I can't wait to live in a condo someday.
ReplyDeleteThe yard work overwhelms me, we live on 5 acres and it seems to be neverending, I can't wait to live in a condo someday.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Yaweh or Jesus or Janet Yellen put only 24 hours in a day, that's what overwhelms me. How am I supposed to get in all my legit work, my blog work, get the kids to training, drive up the mountain to see the oldest play, and sufficiently swoon over Connie Britton on Friday Night Lights - and get a solid six hours sleep?
ReplyDeleteI don't have kids, but I'm overwhelmed by working 2 jobs & going to college (2nd time around for me). I now stay up (very) late on weeknights but fall asleep early on weekends. What the hell is that??? Oh, & I just love hearing from my teenage employees (who work 4 hours per week) how tired they are & how they "don't have time to do anything fun." Um, excuse me?? These kids are in trouble when they have to start adulting...
ReplyDeleteI am not good at organizing. Especially mail, paperwork and little things. I need more space and more patience.
ReplyDeletewhat overwhelms me is trying to keep my house clean with kids, dogs and cats
ReplyDeleteelena150980 at yahoo dot com
I have three kids and we live far from extended family. I stay at home (home school, in fact), and I get overwhelmed by being "on" all the time. Being an introvert, I need more space than is realistic in my life right now!
ReplyDeleteI get overwhelmed by the work life balance challenges that parenting brings - mostly daycare drop off/pick up!

Dealing with a job that is less-than-satisfying, meal planning for a family member with health issues, doing household stuff that I HATE to do (cleaning, laundry, etc) with little assistance but when I ask about getting paid help it's a loud NO. And not having time to spend doing the things I love to do. The joy of STRESS! :-/
