Welcome to Snarkfest

Welcome to my snarky corner of the web. Join me as I discuss everything from wine to chocolate. There may be a few other topics mixed in there too. I talk a bunch about my amazing offspring, 24 and 21. I sometimes go on and on about my secret crush on the amazing Mike Rowe. I talk about things that irritate me or things that make me happy. Sometimes I just talk to hear myself talk. Feedback is always appreciated but please make sure it's respectable. No nudity or profanity. I'm the only one allowed to be profane. But any and all snark is welcome and appreciated!

Trump for President? NO THANK YOU!

Here's a warning before you read this. The opinions in this blog post are my own. I'm not getting into a debate about my opinions. I'm just sharing what my thoughts are, because it's my blog. If you disagree, don't start an argument with me, no name calling, and don't be rude. Rude, mean or hateful comments will be deleted. Because it's my blog.

I cannot begin to understand how in the world Donald Trump is ahead in the Republican polls. What is WRONG with people? I am the last person in the world who wants to get into a discussion regarding politics, but I can't keep my mouth shut anymore. And while I do understand that people are sick to death of politicians, electing THIS 'businessman' would be detrimental to our nation.

I worked for Donald Trump in Atlantic City back in the 90's. He filed for bankruptcy four times. FOUR. The man does not pay his bills! He wheels and deals and then leaves his contractors in the lurch. Those contractors are men and women with families to feed, and he never paid them what he owed to them. I say again: the man does not pay his bills. From the linked article:

Trump doesn’t deny that four of his businesses have filed for bankruptcy. He argues, however, that filing for bankruptcy is a common business decision, and he was smart to make the moves when he did.
"Hundreds of companies" have filed for bankruptcy, Trump said earlier in the debate. "I used the law four times and made a tremendous thing. I'm in business. I did a very good job."
How is he going to run the country if he cannot manage his own finances?  Our country is already in financial straits so how is electing a man who is totally out of control in his own business finances going to get us back on track? He may be a genius businessman but his personal skills, quite frankly, suck.

Mocking reporters with disabilities? That's goddamn disgusting. THIS is who people want representing our country to leaders of other nations? NO! I am utterly and thoroughly horrified that the possibility even exists that people are going to elect Donald Trump as President. He is unbelievably full of himself.  He is a blowhard, a bully, and now, IN MY OPINION, a dirty liar.

Now he is claiming that he watched Muslims celebrating in New Jersey the day the Towers fell in NYC.  Were there Muslims celebrating? Yes, but not here. Not in the US and not publicly in the streets, as Trump claims. I saw them on the television, but that was international news coverage and they were not in New Jersey. But this is what he believes. In his twisted, bloated, self-serving brain, he honestly believes the shit that comes out of his own mouth. And what scares me even more is that millions and millions of Republicans also believe what he's saying.

I was in New Jersey that day, standing side by side with Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Blacks, Whites, Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, Spanish and we cried. We all cried as we watched the coverage. In a casino chock full of people from all races, religions, all walks of life, we all stood together as one and we cried. There was no celebrating, as Trump claims.

I keep thinking that this nightmare will end, I'll wake up one morning and find that Trump really ISN'T running for President, that he really ISN'T in the lead in the Republican polls. But dammit, every morning I wake up and people are still believing the hateful shit that he's spewing.

  2. Terri I have been wanting to wake up and see this is all a bad dream too. What scares me more about this whole thing isn't that Trump is running, people like him are out there in the world and they want power, I get that. What scares me is that rational, good people are buying what he is selling. He is tapping into our worst fears and it is more than a little scary. I keep thinking of the quote, Evil is when good men do nothing. I applaud you for speaking out! xo

  3. If you took his talking points and scripted them, put them in the mouth of a high schooler running for class president, they would be disqualified. He has no tact. It's not about 'speaking your mind'. It's about representing the people, and he doesn't represent me.

  4. I'm really starting to believe that idiots out number normal and smart people. This country...well frankly it's starting to make me sad and very worried.

  5. I really think some people want the guy from The Apprentice to be president because they want him to say "you're fired" once or twice. Wake up, America.

  6. Kimberly, as I was reading your comment I thought, you must think to yourself "Did he really say that? Am I typing this right? No, he COULDN'T have said that"

  7. I was in a room full of his supporters this week. It's shocking, really. The two businessmen (they were wearing suits) who sat in front of me looked quite intelligent. And they were clapping along with Trumps crazy comments. There were people of all races there, which also surprised me. Trump's rhetoric all night was "I'm gonna build a wall, and make Mexico pay for it". Um....has he seen Mexico's financials? They're not exactly rolling in dough over there. I went because he was close and wanted to hear what he had to say. All hr said was "this country is in trouble, and when I get to the White House, I'm gonna fix it". No clear statement on HOW, just that he's "gonna fix it". I believe the man's an idiot. I pray the American people who have chosen to follow him and believe his crap wake up before it's too late. Especially since I'm poor, don't have a passport and can't move to another country!

    1. Andrea, you hit the nail right on the head with his game plan. "We're gonna fix it" HOW?? How will he fix it?? I've heard him quoted as saying 'I've got a plan, it's a business plan" His 'plan' is unclear and it's frightening!

  9. He scares the shit out of me.
Actually all the people who think he is a contender scare the shit out of me.
Since when is "speaking your mind" a qualification for a presidential candidate?
I mean, we all have a crazy uncle who speaks his mind but do we want him for president?

  10. Take it or leave it but this situation does NOT surprise me at all. How many of you voted? Do you realize how FEW people actually vote anymore? Who knows if it actually works or not, but it is still your duty as a responsible citizen to honor those who gave their lives to freaking vote. Second. How many of you subscribe to trash magazines and support stupid rich people? How many of you watch reality TV, like keeping up with the Kardashians (Krackdashians)? How many of you actually listen to what those blowhards have to say and STILL follow them? I believe there is so much Anger out there because politicians have made it a policy to BE & STAY divisive. Separate The People. AND, you still may vote for these divisive fucktards. Any politicians that won't work with BOTH sides, doesn't DESERVE to represent us. We got exactly what we voted for. We have representatives right NOW who think the opposition is The Enemy. We deserve exactly what we got. I can no longer 'laugh' at Trump because The Fun is over and I can only hope people wake up but it does not surprise me that he has come so far. I'm angry. I'm angry at Every Single One of You that cannot have a single, civilized disagreement with mutual respect. We NEED to be able to talk to each other and HEAR & TRY to understand the OTHER side of each argument. I personally, make it my duty to try and "argue" BOTH sides so that I can try to understand. Shame on any of you if you cannot be nice to someone who disagrees with you. Shame on any of you if you cannot try to have a civil discourse.

  11. I'm so with you. At first I thought, "This has to be some kind of stunt for publicity. He'll say 'Bazinga' and announce some new building or business and it was all for the free air time" but it just is not ending. I guess I underestimated the stupidity of a large part of our country and that really scares me. It's bumming me out. I have a hard time watching the news and following this election, especially the Republican parts. It's so depressing. HOW can people support his antics? I say antics, but really there is nothing entertaining about the way he treats people, like they are less than people.
Women are property to him. Other races are less than people. Other businesses are enemies, other countries are targets. People are worthless to him. It's sad and scary. It makes me sick to my stomach. It's not funny anymore. It stopped being funny a long time ago.
You're so right about the bankruptcies. THIS is how we want to run our country??
You want to know why we're in debt? Part of it is because the corporations used to pay a huge percentage of tax, now they find the loopholes and pay almost no tax. The 1% pay less and less tax while the middle class is paying more and more. WHY? How are we supposed to survive working harder and keeping less of our paycheck?
HOW is this working??? How can it keep working? What are people thinking?
I have to not think about it sometimes because it's overwhelming, but at the same time we have to DO something about it. UGH.
Thanks for writing what I can't bring myself to even think about right now.

  12. I'm sorry but I still don't understand how anyone can take him seriously in the US. Admittedly I'm I'm in England, so maybe he's a completely different person but to most of us Brits, he's just an embarrassment. I think most of us over here see him as a stool pigeon, he can't seriously be the republican candidate, surely there's someone better in the Republican Party? ok I get some people don't like your current president, we have politicians we think are useless, we just don't vote for them. It would be like us voting in Alan Sugar in for Prime Minister, or Piers Morgan, but at least both of them make sense....still wouldn't vote for either of them to be prime minister though. Over here Donald Trump is known for his tv show, why anyone with half a brain cell would want to work for him, for his much, much younger wife, the idea of her being First Lady is too hideous to think of, and going bankrupt numerous times. So what on earth are we missing about him? People are voting for him, why? Who on Gods green earth are voting for him? Somehow I doubt any politician, world wide would ever take him seriously, I mean who will be his Vice President? Rosie O'DONNELL ?) lol

  13. Preach it sister!!!!! I can't believe people want him having any kind of contact or say with foreign leaders.

If him being the front runner doesn't get people to the polls to vote against him representing us on a global stage, then I have lost every hope I had for the American people.

  15. I don't often read anything having to do with politics anymore but I did read this.... As for president we have not had anyone with voting for in a very long time... It was so bad I always thought of it as picking the lesser of the evils who are running... now I don't vote at all.... For myself I have decided I will not be a part of voting in horrible people... and that's all that run for the position anymore.... I do agree with you about trump though... He is a horrible man

    1. Please do not NOT vote! Just don't pick a president if it comes down to it. Your local and state initiatives matter more in the long run. That affects your day-to-day. The national stuff, well it matters, yes, but it takes so long to get anything done. So please reconsider. I didn't choose a president last major election. But I do vote on my local matters every year: local council, state leaders, Senate and House, and state and county proposals. And you can skip any of those questions while voting for the ones that matter to you.

    2. I agree with justkris. VOTE! I don't care if you write in Mike Rowe or Mickey Mouse, but a vote FOR anyone else is a vote against Trump.

  19. Don't worry, this idiot will not become President. He's doing it for his ego, and the media is eating it up. When it comes down to the nomination the Republican party will not choose him. They are a mess, but not that bad.

If he does become Prez it's time to move to Canada!

  22. Kimberly, did you do a "Trump"??!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, this is a new one for us as we have NEVER discussed politics before. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you. I think Trump is just what the country needs. Yes, he's loud, ignorant, uncouth, but he does make it a point to touch on all of the problems that Americans want taken care if. Yes, he a scoundrel of a businessman and he might have declared bankruptcy three times. BUT, is there REALLY a better CHOICE IN THE MIX? I don't believe there is! Huckabee scares me just by his name let alone his ridiculous ideas, Jeb Bush is in this just for the family name and to get rich and screw the country like his relatives. And HEAVEN FORBID, if Mrs. Clinton gets elected. She make Benghazi look like an 8 year old's birthday party compared to how she'll ruin this country. I feel it's about time to maybe get the politicians out of politics and run this country like a business. What is there to lose? We've been ransacked and pushed in the dirt over the past three decades. The Bush family saw to that and made millions spilling innocent American blood on foreign soil for no great reason what so ever. I mean honestly, why did we go fight a war in the dessert? To save our liberty and freedom is what we were all told. We didn't lose anything but service men who our country has turned it's back on and.given help to our enemies! We're more at risk now in our safety than we ever were then! Then everyone thought Obama would make a difference. He did, by making us the laughing stock of the world. So, who better? Clinton? Christy? Might as well vote for Sharpton or Farrakhan, if they were running. No, I think Trump might be a fresh start, but who really knows?? But I still like the guy, compared to ALL the others, I like the guy!

  24. Peggy, it just so happens, acxording to his exwife he had a copy of a book of Hitler's speechs that he read before bed at night to make him better at giving speeches. He looked up to Hitler's ability to give speechs and have people listen. The article also talked about how his cousin would click his heels and say "heil Hitler"; when entering his office. I believe that is how he gained his ability to have people listen to his hate speil. He truely is scarey..... espe ially the way he was even able to get the GOP to accept his views and allow him to run.

  25. I used to think Trump was a sign of just how far the Republican party had moved into extremism, that he was a front-runner because the other candidate failed one ideological purity test or another, but I've come to think he really just appeals to the lizard brain. In scary times people see someone who makes a lot of noise and blusters a lot and even though it doesn't do it for me I can see the appeal.
It's something I thought of when I heard a woman say she decided to vote for Trump after she was thrown out of a restaurant for making racist remarks.
And Trump can keep pointing to his business experience but George W. Bush was a businessman too, and look where he got us. Then again I think the majority of Trump supporters are the 32% who stood by Bush up to the very end. After all both are blustering loudmouths with no clear plan and a history of bankruptcies.

  26. Relax, everyone. He'll be done in a month. It'll come down to Cruz or Rubio. Remember when Herman Cain led the polls early for the Republicans? If Trump gets the nomination, I'll give up pizza and burgers for life. Now, that's serious.
